#WWIM16PH: Let’s sit and talk about spreading #KindComments

Announced early August, we’re heeding the call for Instagram’s Worldwide Instameet 16, in its continuing theme of spreading kindness, supported by communities across cities around the world, to make this a global movement to create, share, inspire using Instagram to exchange visual stories of positivity and heartfelt messages not only in Instagram but in real life.

For IGersManila, we decided to bring back the early days of instameets, usually done in a cafe where the relaxing ambience and instagrammable interiors/exteriors make for a perfect meeting place for both friends and strangers, to talk and make quick snapshots over a cup of hot or cold coffee. And where else can you find a meetup venue that not only offers the best in coffee but has been a popular go-to place for community-driven events, COMMUNE CAFE + BAR in Makati, thanks to our good friend Rosario Juan.

Creating Pawsibilities with Kindness at #WWIM15❤️PH #WWIM15❤️

Kevin Systrom, Co-Founder and CEO of Instagram, recently announced Worldwide Instameet 15 to be held on the weekend of March 25 to 26, 2017 this time centered on the theme of kindness. And at IGersManila, we’re happy to oblige as we join communities across the globe in spreading kindness for #WWIM15❤️PH #WWIM15❤️. This will be the 24th Philippine Instameet / Manila Instameet.

Open to all Instagram’ers, registration is required. Limited slots available, go to bit.ly/wwim15ph for more details.

A Very ‘Social’ Change

The Internet has always been one of the greatest inventions humanity has ever created. Communication and information is at our fingertips. It defies human intelligence that no one has ever thought of. It created possibilities that are very useful to the entire humankind. And one of those possibilities is Social Media.

Social Media according to the definition is the collective of online communications channels dedicated to community-based input, interaction, content-sharing and collaboration.

With the mushrooming of technology, social media is also escalating its power to provide information in most easiest and fastest way; influencing people in its most favorable way. However, just like everything else, there’s a downside to Social Media. Sometimes it creates misconceptions that it usually loses its fashion and its credibility which greatly affect not a single person but an entire community. Therefore, Social Media should be a tool for change–a change that humanity is dreaming for.

Social Media Day was launched four (4) years ago. There were reasons why it was created. Simply to inform, educate and spread awareness to netizens and the people. Last June 27, 2015 was the 4th Social Media Day in the Philippines held at Museo Pambata in the City of Manila. Hundreds of netizens flocked in the said event. It was a celebration of the power of social media. The global event was spearheaded by Mashable and was made possible here in the Philippines–the social media capital of the world. Together with communities, partners, and volunteers led by TweetUpMNL since 2012. All those communities (including IGersManila), partners and volunteers gathered and set up their booths and provided noteworthy activities for the participants. Aside from getting and acquiring new trends, apps and other social media functions, fora were also conducted, with local guests from some of the most influential people in social media today including Antoinette Jadaone, the director of the blockbuster indie movie, That Thing Called Tadhana.

But it wasn’t just a celebration, it was a revolution. A revolution engaging and aiming for change. As we march closer to our Presidential Election, it was the perfect time for us netizens to voice out what change we want–for our country. We have the will to influence people. We should take advantage the power of social media in most honest way. We aim to provide information, help and cater people’s needs as much as we can. We channel to every Filipino around the world to help build and create a better Philippines.

Indeed, it was a festive day for everyone. It was also a day of friendship where everyone had a chance to meet new people and gain friends. Smiles were contagious and excitement slithered all over the place. Exhaustion was never part of the event. Just like any celebration, everyone went home with pockets full of prices and freebies. Social Media Day 2015 was definitely celebrated with a bang!

We are the people. We are the Social Media…and we ALWAYS know how to keep the good vibes rolling!

See y’all at the next #SocialMediaDay!

Building a #ResilientPH

In January 1996, the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation for Peace and Development was founded as an independent Philippine organization that promotes peace and development. It was named and inspired after the late President of the United Nations (1949-1950) and Secretary of Foreign Affairs (1968-1984), Carlos P. Romulo.

With the previous disasters that the country has suffered, most especially last November 2013’s “Typhoon Yolanda” (Haiyan), the foundation in cooperation with the Zuellig Family Family Foundation is inviting everyone to join their series of events on how to initiate and prepare citizens in building a resilient Philippine Society. Their series of events will start with a free seminar this July 9 to 10, 2014 at the Manila Polo Club.

There will be succeeding activities over the next three years, including the convening of specialized workshops, to review and assess progress, identify roadblocks and find ways to move forward on resilience across sectors and geographic areas.

To know more about the foundation and the details of their upcoming events for #ResilientPH, go to http://carlospromulo.org/ or like their Facebook Page.

IGersManila at the #BratpackRemix

Last 30-June-2014, #IGersManila’s #TheMods were invited to attend Bratpack’s #bratpackremix launch at The Gallery, Greenbelt 5, Makati City.

and Celina De Guzman, who colors each work with a dreamy palette of pastels.

Special thanks to Ms. KC Aguila and Clytie Choa for inviting #IGersManila.

#iCoss attends #MaleficentInTrinoma

On Thursday, May 29,  Trinoma Cinema hosted a special block screening of Angelina Jolie’s latest Disney movie, Maleficent, for several bloggers and instagram’ers.  With the assistance of Ms. Bianca Cammayo of The Loop and @IGersManila’s The Coll member @jaimejim, some members of @IGersManila’s Circle of Snapshooters #iCoss were able to attend the said event.

At around 4 pm, people were gathered in front of Trinoma Cinema 1 where food and drinks (courtesy of T.G.I.Friday’s) were  served.  A short program was also held wherein Trivia questions were asked, and several prizes were given away.  They also asked the participants to take a selfie with Maleficent using the big movie poster/standee outside, and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #MaleficentInTrinoma.  Three (3) winners were picked and they won a cool wristwatch from Swatch.  And before the movie started, they asked all the audience to search for Trinoma Cinema stickers under their seats, and 20 lucky winners won a GC from Racks.

The movie itself was already a treat for us.  It is evident that everyone enjoyed the twists in that fairy tale story as a round of applause were heard after the movie was finished.  Big thanks again to Trinoma and The Loop for this opportunity and looking forward for more events with them.

MTV Exit invites IGersManila to see “Alagwa”

MTV Exit, through its Campaign Coordinator in the Philippines, Toni Zuniga, invited the IGersManila community to a special screening of “Alagwa” (Breakaway) last Sunday 02-March-2014 at the SM Mall of Asia. This is in cooperation with the US Embassy Manila Philippines and USAID Philippines, as part of the America 3D event.

Just like the Freedom Pledge, a campaign that IGersManila supports, this film is another harsh realization of how human trafficking takes place in the country within Filipinos. The film stars Jericho Rosales and Bugoy Cariño, and was written and directed by Ian Loreños. It uncovers the dark aspects of the underground business of human trafficking and the worst possibilities of how it can unexpectedly occur, which serve as an eye-opener to those who have seen the film.

Joining #TheMods Ed Calaycay and Petim Maminta are the members of IGersManila’s Circle of Snapshooters or #iCoss, who have likewise expressed their support for this campaign.

Support the fight against human trafficking, take the #FreedomPledge, because you and I can make a difference.

#TheMods speak at Buklod-UPLB’s Youth Republic V

It was set on a Monday and the venue’s outside Manila, but we just can’t turn down an opportunity to share our experiences, especially to students and for a good cause. So when IGersManila was invited by Buklod-UPLB to join their Youth Republic V, we said yes. And so on the early morning of February 17th, we went on our farthest road trip so far – from Manila to Los Baños Laguna – the three of us #TheMods, as guest speakers, with Mommy A tagged along to join in on the adventure.

Formed in 2004 by a group of students who desired to effect positive change in the political scene of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Buklod is a recognized student political organization that upholds integrity, initiative, and involvement. And in this year’s Youth Republic V, held at the CAS Auditorium from 1:00pm onwards, the theme focused on the #GamerGeneration: Youth Creativity and Innovation.
